Mental Skills Training

LASA is please to provide a series of workshops for Mental Skills Training.  These clinics are available free of charge to all LASA members.  There is a $25.00 fee for all parents/coaches/players who are non LASA members.  If you have any questions, please email  Please follow the link to register for the upcoming workshops:

Advantages of Introducing Mental Skills into a Minor Sports Program:

Parents Workshop April 14/19, 7-9pm

Understanding Mental Skills. An Overview for Parents of Youth Athletes



  • What do we mean by mental skills?
  • How does a youth athlete develop these skills?
  • What are the core mental skills a youth athlete requires for success?
  • What role do parents play in assisting in this development?
  • How do parents effectively communicate with players and coaches?
  • What are some do’s and do not’s for parents to consider?


Coaches Workshop March 31/19, 7-9pm

A Coach’s Role in Development Mental Skills in Their Youth Players


  • How can mental skills improve a player’s performance?
  • What role does a coach play in assisting in developing these skills?
  • What skills should you focus on with players?


LASA Mental Skills Training

  • How do you build mental skills into a training plan?
  • What is the difference between a practice and game mindset?
  • How do you effectively communicate with players and parents?


U10/U12 Workshop Monday, April 15/19, 7-8pm

Introduction to Mental Skills for Young Players 


  • What are mental skills?
  • What are some key skills for young players? (This will include description of skills

and how to practice them)


U14-Intermediate Workshop Series, Wednesdays from 7-8pm, March 27-April 17/19

Series of Mental Skills Workshops for Competitive Players




  • Workshop 1: Managing Expectations and Comfort Zones, March 27/19, 7-8 pm

o This workshop will introduce young athletes to a formula for success by

identifying limiting beliefs and managing expectations. As well we will

discuss comfort zones and how these affect individual performance.


  • Workshop 2: Concentration and Enhancing Focus, April 3/19, 7-8 pm

o This workshop will introduce the concept of different types of

concentration and how to improve these. As well as the 3Rs of refocusing

will be discussed.


  • Workshop 3: Practice and Performance Mindsets, April 10/19, 7-8 pm

o This workshop will introduce the difference between a training and

trusting mindset, when to apply these mindsets and how to handle key

breakdowns in a trusting mindset. As well discussion will occur in regard

to pro-active and reactive self-confidence.


  • Workshop 4: Emotional Control and Relaxation, April 17/19, 7-8 pm

o This workshop will introduce concepts related to emotional control such

as the inverted U-hypothesis. As well we will discuss signs of under and

over emotional-arousal. Tools will be discussed to provide strategies

athletes can use to maintain emotional control.
